Catchgreen, in collaboration with FishSA, has conducted a legal review and survey of the South African commercial fishing industry to identified gaps in the management of end-of-life fishing gear (EOLFG) and measures to reduce sea-based sources of marine plastic litter (SBMPC) in South Africa. Based on the results of this gap analysis, a set of recommendations are given on steps to ensure more effective management of fishing gear and reduction of marine plastic litter from fishing gear in South Africa.
