Improving occupational health & safety and meeting decent work standards

Resource Pack

The purpose of this resource pack is to help SMEP grantees strengthen their organisational practice around decent work and occupational health and safety (OHS). It complements three online workshops hosted in September and October 2025.

The pack introduces the concept of decent work through the five components of theInternational Labour Organisation’s (ILO)Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work:

  • Elimination of forced or compulsory labour
  • Abolition of child labour
  • Elimination of discrimination
  • Freedom of association and collective bargaining
  • Safe and healthy working environments

For each of these areas, the pack provides a short explanation and points the reader to more detailed guidance and support organisations.

The resource pack and workshops have been developed by the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI), commissioned by the SMEP Programme.
