Gender Equality and Social Inclusion

Spotlight on Mananasi Fibre

SMEP funded projects operate in sectors characterised by socioeconomic inequalities, informal and unregulated value chains, and male dominance, yet they are also well-positioned to initiate new inclusive approaches. To mitigate discriminatory practices that perpetuate inequalities, SMEP projects are committed to identifying vulnerabilities, addressing gender-biased social norms, and considering specific workforce and local context needs.

This factsheet spotlight the GESI achievements and activities of one of SMEP’s grantees – Mananasi Fibre. Operating in Thika, Kenya, Mananasi Fibre aims to demonstrate environmentally, socially and financially viable interventions for managing waste from pineapple farming. Since inception, the project has setup up strong structures that promote GESI, meeting both SMEP’s objectives and their own.
